A Last Love letter

A Last Love Letter
By Todd C. Stanley

My Dearest Serra,

If you are reading this letter, then you know that I’ve not made it home alive, that I’ve not survived the war, and that I have died defending my country. My beautiful Serra dear, do not weep for me, my body may be shattered but my love for you still lingers. It is alive in these words that I have written to you and I pray that they shall stay with you always. Serra my darling, I wish it had not come to this, I fear now that you alone must take care of our children, tell them for me that their father misses them and loves them with all my heart. Tell little Angie that I am proud of her, to keep her balance as she learns to ride her bike, and tell Alyssa when she comes, that I am sorry I could not be there for her birth but that I love her very much.
Serra, I know you are suffering my loss but I know you will pull through; I need you to stay strong for our children and watch after them. I know you will raise them to be wonderful young women who are strong and confident. Serra I am so proud of you, we have only been together for two years but right now it feels like it’s been forever. I couldn’t be happier with anyone else but you. I have died as your man, and as you being my only one, forever and ever. You make me so happy Serra, you and our beautiful children. Many men here have died for something or someone. Most men here are too young to be wearing a uniform, but they are, and they wear it with sincere hearts. Despite how young we are, I’m glad that we are out here. Conditions are tough, and there are less and less of us returning to base by the day, the men’s morale is wearing thin and I fear that they are losing hope. I know we will win this war.
There is one last thing I want to tell you my love. I want to tell you that I believe we will be together again. I know God has a plan for us and I don’t believe that he wants our love to end. I know I’ve never believed much in God, but being here has brought me closer to him and I can feel it more and more by the day. I know he will help you Serra, you have always been so faithful in your prayers. When Alyssa comes, teach her to pray with her older sister, teach them who God is and tell them that their father will always be close by them to watch them grow. Let them know how proud I am of them. I love you so much Serra, my love, my darling sweetheart, my northern star, my world and my life. I love you.
James
