Sunrise Sunset

Sunrise Sunset
By Todd Craig Stanley

What is wrong with your life, why is the system of our day crumbling with each new word we speak? Our lips touch and the feeling of love evaporates like water simmering on a star. It never lasts, never remains, never lingers. Once felt dreams of passionate romance and unsettling hearts tears away the core of my being. One last touch of your soft delicate skin, the grazing warmth that passes through your body like the summer breeze, blowing through this field of roses that makes me recall the scent of your hair fills the evening. The opening of your dazzling blue eyes, the blue of this dark night hiding the sun sending the sky to cool down bursting with color as the night begins to take your life. Ever on the colors stretch as you lay your head to the cold earth, feeling the breath of the world pass through your fingertips. Death that comes from the darkness offers light to your soul as your star filled eyes flood with tears streaming down your soft pale cheeks. The tears you cry scream for relief as death stretches his welcoming hand towards you, beckoning an escape from your world now shattered. The last breath that lingers on your lips escapes from a grasping, unseen hand now faded as speech of a few simple words strikes against your broken world, taming your heart, and making you close your eyes to the sense of a heart taking hold of yours as my lips keep your last breath in your mouth bringing you back to life. When you open those beautiful eyes I'll be gone, my essence of love will remain with you always, keeping you alive and keeping you on your feet. The strings of my heart entangled with yours sets my mind to dream of a day when you could be mine again. When you fall to your knees, burdened by the world, bleeding tears that shatter your heart into smaller pieces, and making you give up on life will never last. I will be there to pick you up along with the remains of your heart. Fly across the universe, count the stars, and find the one you and I both share. Gaze into my eyes and see that life you once had when you were happy, when you were in love. The night settling the sun now dims the shimmer of light upon your flesh as you now fade away into the dark leaving me once again alone, wandering, and searching the night for your face. The sparkle of the stars reflect your eyes now hidden by the dark clouds that take you from me. For so long I will wait for you to appear to me again, this night I sleep hearing the chorus of the breeze like the lullaby you sang for me. Awake with the morning rising in the sky as the blue of your eyes are found once again. Find me standing there, waiting patiently for you to make your next fatal move against my heart. Spill my blood again and revel in the glory that I will keep a smile just for you. I will survive the day, waiting again for the night to come take the world so peacefully, waiting to see your eyes glisten in the stars once again, waiting for you to come out of the night to join me in the sunset where the sky will be stretched with red like your sweet hair that sways beside you filling the air with purity and passion. I'll watch as you fall asleep to the sound of the night, the orchestra of the wind calling your name so gently. Keep hold of this sunset fading so quickly as your eyes grow heavy, in the morning when you look to the sunrise you will see me again, giving that smile to you, that smile I've always kept safe for you.
